Connecting to the Solstice Pod from an Apple device (laptop, iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch) is accomplished the same way as connecting to an AppleTV (see below). There IS an app available for iOS and MacOS which provides the possibility of controlling who can share and how things are displayed on the Pod, but it offers no advantages for basic screensharing such as can be done with the AppleTV. Note that playing video on the room display via AirPlay to the Solstice Pod is not as smooth as playing to an AppleTV. If you plan to play video in a room with a Solstice Pod, you will probably want to do it over the HDMI cable provided in the room rather than wirelessly.
Connecting to the Solstice from your Mac Laptop, iPad or iPhone
- Your Mac laptop or iOS Device must be connected to IllinoisNet in order to see the available Solstice Pods.
- On your Mac laptop, select “Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available” from the Displays preferences to add a drop-down menu of Solstice Pods and AppleTVs to your menubar from which you can choose a Solstice Pod or AppleTV.
- On your iOS device, swiping up from the bottom of the screen will give you an “AirPlay Mirroring” button which will then give you a list of available Solstice Pods and AppleTVs.
- Selecting a Solstice Pod will cause it to display a 4-digit passcode on the room display (assuming you have selected the Solstice Pod for the display input). You must enter this code on your device in order to connect.
- When you have finished, you should again select AirPlay on your Apple device in order to disconnect from the Solstice Pod.
