Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: I missed orientations. Can I still get involved and volunteer?

A: Absolutely! Just reach out to thereactprogram@gmail.com for information.

Q: Do I need to be majoring in chemistry or in a chemistry course to become involved?

A: No! All majors are welcome! You do not need to be in a chemistry course either to volunteer with us.

Q: I missed my training session, can I reschedule?

A: You can reschedule on a case-by-case basis if training sessions are still going on. If training sessions are over then you will not be able to participate in the event.

Q: I forgot the date of my training time.

A: Your training session was emailed to you when you registered. Check it but if you lost it contact thereactprogram@gmail.com.

Q: How long does training sessions last?

A: Training sessions usually last 30-60 minutes.

Q: Do I need to bring anything to my training session?

A: Nope, just make sure you complete the Google form before coming.

Q: I did not receive honors credit for my class?

A: If you have met all the requirements and all paperwork has been submitted, contact Dr. Bhagya Gunasekera (Dr. G), mmg@illinois.edu.

Q: What is an HCLA?

A: It is an Honors Contract Learning Agreement. This is for James Scholars looking to register their Chemistry course as an Honors course.

Q: What courses can I take for honors?

A: Chemistry 101,102,104, 202, 204,232, 236, 332 and 436.

Q: Where can I obtain an HCLA?

A: Contact your college office.

Q: Do I need to be a James Scholar to volunteer with REACT?

A: No! All undergraduate students are welcome – you do not need to be a James Scholar.

Q: Can I still earn honors credit through REACT if I’m not a James Scholar?

A: No. You must be a James Scholar to earn honors credit in your chemistry course through REACT.

Q: How can I become more involved with the program?
